Like a lot of other people, I saw a lot of celebrity videos about the Tineco vacuum mop on Instagram and TikTok in 2023. I didn’t believe it. It didn’t seem real—hundreds of big leaders couldn’t really love a hard floor cleaner that much, could they? But in July 2023, I gave in and got it when I saw it on Amazon for a great price.
I’m giving our Tineco Floor ONE S5 pair an honest review after using it for more than 7 months in this post. I paid for this with my own money and have never talked to Tineco about it. It’s not funded, and I wasn’t given anything. So, does it live up to the hype? Read on to find out…
It can be hard to tell which cleaning gadgets are worth the hype in a world full of them. Some of them even go viral on social media. Before today, I hadn’t even told my social media fans about it. Why? I didn’t want to “influence” anyone until I had used it for a while. I have used the Tineco for seven months and can now compare it to other hard floor cleaners I have used. I am now ready to tell you what I really think of the Tineco Floor ONE S5 combo.
For more than ten years, we used the Hoover hard floor cleaner.
Before I tell you about the Tineco, I want you to know that we have used a mop vacuum for more than ten years. I’ve never liked using a standard bucket and mop to clean floors. There are new mops that keep dirt and water separate, and we did try one. But mopping isn’t as good as I’d like it to be.
The first Hoover FloorMate Hard Floor Cleaner was bought by my husband and me in 2003 or 2004. We were fresh out of college and married, so it cost us a lot at the time. This magical machine sprayed cleaning solution on your floors, cleaned them, and then squeeged up the dirty, wet water. We adored it.
We used the first Hoover FloorMate Hard Floor Cleaner for many years, until the squeegee stopped working well. In 2019, we got a new Hoover Floormate. It worked better than the first machine we had. It cleaned up both wet and dry junk. We didn’t really care that it was a pain to clean after each use. We really liked them.
But after about 4 years, the squeegee stopped working (again), and we couldn’t find a new part that was easy to find. It was around this time that the Tineco floor cleaners first went popular. Every time I saw a celebrity video love the Tineco, I thought, “It can’t be as good as the Hoover Floormate.” Then I saw it on Amazon in July 2023 for a great price, so I bought it. What do I say? I guess something affected me.
The things about the Tineco Floor ONE S5 Combo Model that made me choose it
There are a lot of different types of the Tineco hard floor cleaner, and I honestly didn’t know which one to pick. There are also a lot of different prices.
Better cleaning of edges and corners
You can get right up to the baseboards and into places that are hard to get to because of the way the brush head is made.
Changes into a Handvac
With attachments, it can be turned into a handheld cleaner that you can use to clean the inside of your car, the stairs, and other places.
Auto-Cleaning Without Hands
The hands-free, self-cleaning feature flushes the inner tube and brush roller automatically, and the dirty water tank has a pet hair strainer, which is very important to us because we have a big, hairy dog.
Not too loud and not too heavy
It’s very easy to move and handle because it weighs less than 9 pounds and has wheels that move on their own and swivel turning. Some people have called it “ultra-quiet,” but I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. However, for how well it cleans, it is pretty quiet. That’s for sure not very loud.
What I Thought About the Tineco Vacuum Mop at First
Something needed to be “assembled” when I first took it out of the box, and it looked hard as I took everything out. In fact, it was very quick—only 10 minutes. I wasn’t sure if I wanted the machine yet, so I kept the box and left the tags on it.
I quickly read the directions and turned it on. I was ready for disappointment. So you can imagine how surprised I was when I was really impressed. Here’s what I loved right away:
The wheels that move themselves make it very easy to move. I can do it with one hand.
I didn’t know how useful swivel steering is for turning and going around curves that are too tight. The swivel turning works really well.
There was a lot less water left on the floors than with our old Hoover cleaner, so they dried faster and didn’t leave any streaks. There was A LOT of suction.
It got clear spots of gunk off the floor very quickly.
The self-cleaning feature was much better than I thought it would be. The old Hoover Floormate machine could “self-clean,” but not nearly as well or for as long as the Tineco’s feature.
- It really does clean all the way up to the edges of floors and kitchen cabinets.
- Also, I was very happily shocked. I still didn’t throw away the box or take off the tag. It was important to me that it kept impressing me, lol.
- After 7+ months of use, here’s how I feel about our Tineco.
- Now that it’s been over 7 months, I love it even more, if that’s possible. The tags are broken. The box is no longer there.
It cleans well and doesn’t leave marks.
I’m really happy with our Tineco Floor One S5 package as a whole. It’s really simple to use, and it cleans our floors really well. Oh, and I love that it doesn’t leave our floors with a lot of water. They dry quickly and don’t get streaky. It always grosses me out how much dirt these get off our wooden floors. With dogs in the house, this vacuum mop really helps keep it clean.
But it’s not the same as a regular vacuum cleaner.
The Tineco S5 combo vacuum mop can clean up both wet and dry filth. This machine can easily clean up breakfast crumbs and milk that have been spilled on the floor. But I don’t think our Tineco S5 can be used instead of a vacuum. Just in case you were wondering, our old Hoover Floormate wasn’t a vacuum either.
Some people may say, “It cleans and vacuums your floor at the same time!” I don’t agree with that. Yes, it can pick up both wet and dry trash at the same time, which makes it great for cleaning up after mistakes. But if I want to clean the whole surface of my floors, I always use our plug-in vacuum cleaner to get rid of dog hair and other things before I use this machine.
It’s GREAT that it cleans itself.
One of my greatest favorite features is that it cleans itself. It works really well. When it’s done, you still need to empty the dirty water tank. It gets dirty on the floors, so I don’t want to put it in any of the sinks. So I flush it down the toilet.
I also have to clean out the pet drainer every time I use it because our big dog sheds a lot. That means you still have to do some work after using the machine, but it’s not much. After our Hoover hard floor clean “self-cleaned,” we had to do a lot more work.
It is stored and charged by the docking station.
I love the place to dock. It charges your floor cleaner and has a place to store an extra roller brush and some other parts. In other words, the charging station needs to be hooked up. We’re lucky that our laundry room has a good place to plug it in and store it.
The charger and docking station work together, so it’s always ready to go when I need it. It’s also easy to grab whenever I need it. For some reason, the battery life has been fine. I’ve read that it lasts for 30 minutes, but ours has never needed to be used that long before it needed to be charged again.
The good and bad things about the Tineco Floor One S5 Combo Vacuum Mop
- It has strong suction and doesn’t leave much water on the ground.
- It gets rid of both wet and dry messes at the same time.
- The surface automatically checks to see how “dirty” your floor is.
It is very easy to move around thanks to its self-propelled wheels and swivel turning. - The function that cleans itself is great.
- The floors dry quickly and don’t get streaky.
- Easy to use and no cord
- You can charge your phone right in the docking station.
Cons
Pricey (even the sale price I paid for it was hard to swallow).
- It’s not as good as a vacuum for getting rid of dog hair and other dry dirt from everyday life.
- I’ve heard that it has trouble with big or sticky messes, but I haven’t tried those myself.
- Some people don’t like how long the battery lasts.
- The charging station needs to be plugged in, so put it somewhere close to an outlet.
In the end
To make a long story short, I love this machine so much! It’s weird how much it cleans off of floors that look clean. It costs a lot, but if you can afford it, it’s a treat that is worth it.
